Visiting attractions

When visiting any of the attractions, please follow the basic rules that each require and these will vary from attraction type to attraction type. Much of the protocol involved is common sense and the British are quite relaxed about many things that other countries may frown upon but an element of respect and good behaviour is always welcomed.

Dress code

Dress code in Britain is generally relaxed and any type of clothing may be worn although Churches and Cathedrals may require visitors to wear suitable attire, especially as some of these building are quite cold even in the hottest weather.

Pets

Pets are generally not allowed into attractions although guide dogs are usually accepted. If you want to take your pet with you, check that this is allowed before you visit and if you leave your pet in the car, please ensure that there is adequate ventilation and that the car is in a permanently shaded location. The temperature in a car can rise very rapidly and animals suffer great distress if left in a hot car and can die very quickly.

Disabilty

If you have limited mobility or other physical needs, do check with the attraction first that they can accommodate your needs. It is law that facilities are provided, wherever possible but some of the ancient buildings cannot be adapted to meet all needs and in these circumstances have been given exemption. Many attractions do provide facilities for visitors with hearing difficulties but wheel chair access may be a problem in some of the older buildings. Always check before you visit..

General behaviour

Libraries, museums and places of worship require a degree of quietness from their visitors and children especially should be encouraged to behave appropriately.

Food and Drink

Many attractions have facilities that provide food and refreshment and in some, it is not permitted to take in your own food or drink. It is always worth looking at the attraction website details to see what facilities are available and whether your own food and drink is permitted.
